Bollinger B13 Blanc de Noirs Limited Edition (Vintage 2013)

You can never go wrong with Bollinger, especially when it is a vintage. This special edition of vintage champagne is a tribute to both the grape, the vintage and the environment/climate. Year 2013 was a special year; the winter was long, the spring wet and hesitant, the summer very hot and with violent thunderstorms. Bollinger has managed to make an incredibly well-made vintage champagne, i.a. because they chose to harvest late, in order to ensure the right maturity in the grapes - and because vintage 2013 was a year of extremes, the champagne is precisely also extreme and they have therefore chosen on Bollinger's side that it would not fit into the 3 classic vintage series; La Grande Année, R.D. and Vieilles Vignes Francaises - simply because 2013 is so markedly different. But when you are Bollinger, a challenging harvest year does not prevent a good champagne from being created - and B13 is proof of this. With a delicious and elegant freshness with notes of citrus and yellow stone fruits as well as a flattering note of tarte tatin and almonds, combined with the classic and precise Bollinger minerality, this distinctive vintage champagne, B13, charms its way into one. In order to complement the fact that the vintage has been marked by the unpredictable nature of the weather and climate, Bollinger has chosen to dedicate B13 to the environment. At the same time as the difficult vintage, they were certified HVE - which is a very strict and comprehensive environmental certification.

Comments from a tasting:

"For an 8-year-old champagne this is extremely vibrant, the red-fruit character from the pinot noir grape rather in the background. Quite a strict style with discreet lees creaminess. However the ripeness and power means that it isn’t austere. Feels bone-dry at the powerful, chalky finish. 100% pinot noir, 100% barrel-fermented and 100% matured under cork. Disgorged in March 2021. Drink or hold."
