José Michel Clos Saint Jean 2013

Blanc de Blancs Bottled March 2014, Disgorged December 2021

Clos Saint Jean is a single-vineyard blanc de blancs from José Michel, made from 100% Chardonnay planted in 2004, 2005, and 2006. The vines grow within a walled parcel in Saint-Agnan, rooted in classic clay-limestone (argilo-calcaire) soils.

The 2013 vintage was a cool, late year ideal for Chardonnay. After tirage in March 2014, the wine spent over 7 years aging on the lees before disgorgement in December 2021. Dosage is just 3 g/L, allowing the structure and minerality of the wine to shine.

This is a focused and precise Champagne, with notes of citrus, chalk, and white flowers. The long lees aging adds a subtle creaminess and depth without softening its linear, mineral profile.

Only 3,000 bottles were made. A rare, terroir-driven expression of Chardonnay from the Vallée de la Marne built to age but already showing quiet elegance.
