Presenting itself as a noble and expressive Champagne, this Special Club 2018 from Grongnet beautifully reflects the character of its vintage. The warm and generous 2018 vintage has resulted in a Champagne with a ripe, rounded and immediately appealing character. On the nose, it shows ripe yellow fruit, baked apple, pear and hints of citrus, accompanied by subtle floral and lightly toasted notes. The palate is generous and full-bodied, with a soft, creamy texture, ripe fruit and a pleasant freshness that keeps the wine balanced.
There is a lovely combination of richness and freshness, typical of the successful 2018 vintage, with a long, warm finish and plenty of depth. Although still youthful, the Champagne already shows remarkable harmony and is drinking beautifully now, while further ageing will allow it to develop more complexity and softness.
The blend combines Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from different parcels, with 18% Chardonnay and 12% Pinot Noir undergoing malolactic fermentation in barrels, while the remaining 27% Chardonnay and 43% Pinot Noir undergo malolactic fermentation in stainless steel. This combination brings richness and texture from the barrel-fermented wines, while the steel-fermented portion preserves freshness and precision.
What is Special Club?
Special Club Champagne, also known as the Club de Trésors or Club of Treasures, represents the best classification for grower Champagnes. This club was established back in 1971 as the Club de Viticulteurs Champenois with the purpose of evaluating and recognizing exceptional quality among specific Champagne growers. The small producers worked together to produce a specially made glass bottle for their best vintages. And they only choose their best vintages to be put in Special Club bottles.
